Not sure how we count this as day 1 or day 0. But here goes:
Arrived Mumbai @ 1:35am, 20 March 22, 2009. Thru Saji Lukos I had arranged contact with a man named Girish. He reserved rooms at Hotel Milan, also recommended by Saji. Jim & Dean opted to go directly to domestic terminal as they had only 5 hrs till next flight. Mike & I had separate rooms. Planes right overhead; trains right outside room. I slept like a log; Mike not at all.
Woke up @ 6:30, very refreshed & excited to get started. Bible study, Ezekiel 40. Complimentary breakfast. Walked along busy street. Cross street to boulevard.
This was my first time outside the Mumbai airport. So I wanted to get some views of this famous city. For the record, in case you had not heard, Mumbai used to be called Bombay; so you may know it by that name instead. The recent movie, "Slumdog Millionaire" was filmed in this city. In fact, when I left Mumbai on the previous visit, it was a daylight departure and I could see the slums that are shown early in that movie. Well, this video below is just a normal street scene. Not a major thoroughfare. Still very busy.

On the way back to our hotel, we noticed some shacks down a side lane. So I set my camera for multiple exposures and took a quick 4-pic without looking too obvious. (How obvious would a bald white guy with a camera be on a busy street in Mumbai?)
From Mumbai we caught a flight midday that took us to Udaipur, Rajasthan, then on to Jodhpur, where my friend/host Raju Thomas met us. (More on that later.)

I can't even imagine trying to drive there. We saw Slumdog and it was heart-breaking to see the slums. Hard to believe that people must live that way. -S
